INSTITUTIONAL HISTORIOGRAPHY PROJECTS
Since 1993, the History Foundation implemented research projects dealing with the histories of a number of leading public and private institutions, and published most of them in book form. National Lottery Administration, State Paper Mills, Social Security Administration, Lafarge-Aslan Cement Works, Tobacco and Alcohol Monopoly and Efes Pilsen (brewery), as well as a series of banks including Emlak Bank, Demirbank, Ottoman Bank, Selanik Bank/lnterbank, Egebank and Is Bank were among the subjects of this series on institutional historiography.
Research on the history of the cement industry has been completed and will be published in the coming months.
In its work on institutional historiography, the History Foundation aims at going beyond the limits of conventional forms of publishing and develops projects to attract the attention and the interest of wider audiences through the use of additional means of exhibitions and oral history/documentary films. The exhibition prepared for Ottoman Bank "Vestiges of the Past", the documentary film on Ottoman Bank "Three Periods of a Bank" and Demirbank oral history project constituted important steps in this direction. In addition to other successful projects implemented in cooperation with Ottoman Bank, the History Foundation also helped the establishment of the Ottoman Bank Research and Documentation Centre for Banking and Financial History. At present, the Foundation implemented three new projects in cooperation with this institution, which include "Bibliography of Banking and Economics Publications from the Ottoman Period to Present", a "Prize Competition on the History of Banking and Finance" and an "Exhibition on Bankalar Caddesi." After the closing down of Ottoman Bank, the Foundation continues the "Prize Competition on the History of Banking and Finance" in cooperation with the Centre and with the European Association of Banking History. |
